About once a month I like to take a little time to highlight a trend, concept or just share some cool ideas about what I'm seeing and hearing about weddings. This month, green weddings are on my mind. No, not the color green (although a color scheme of black and white with a shot of lime green is gorgeous!). I'm talking friendly-to-the-environment green. To some, having a green wedding can sound overwhelming, right? You already have a million-and-one things on your mind, and now you need to think green as well. So. Much. Pressure. Relax your shoulders and take a deep breath. Here are some simple green tips that don't demand you set up your own recycling center: Restyle and reuse: Look around your house (and your family's house, and maybe even your friends' homes). See some cool objects that could be incorporated into your event? For example, I am sort of obsessed with Jonathan Adler pottery and have a few pieces from his "menagerie" collection. As these pieces are all white, they could be incorporated into a "candy bar" (ask me about this concept- it is super fun for weddings). So the bar would have a mix of vessels holding various white candies, with lots of white candles scattered about and the white pottery animals inserted into the mix. Eclectic? Check. Personal? Check. Green? Check. Sonia and Fred Lucano have written a book called ReMake, ReSTYLE, ReUSE: Easy Ways to Transform Everyday Basics into Inspired Design. Although the book isn't wedding specific, it has some terrific ideas for reusing objects in a new and different way. And yes, we carry this book in our boutique. For one-of-a-kind favors for a brunch wedding, why not collect pieces of china such as dainty coffee cups? They could be filled with candy, flowers and even have a place card attached. Mismatched pieces can be lovely together if similar in color and style elements. Seating charts. Escort cards. Place cards. Oh my. Check out this trendy way for guests to know where they are seated. This photo is from the book Fete by Jung Lee. By the way, this is a super cool book for inspiration. The photos are gorgeous. And yes, this book just happens to be available for purchase in our shop. For more ideas on green weddings, I would recommend the follow books and websites. And if you have any killer ideas for a green wedding or reception, please share them with us at "info@awilliamsevents.com". Any way we can work together and share tips on protecting the environment is awesome!
